Another trail business starts pedaling
Trails are fun, but trails with services are economic development drivers. Service businesses are popping up across the region on the Panhandle Trail, Montour Trail and Butler-Freeport Trail.
Burgettstown, PA is starting the trail season with a new business: The Shoppe Along the Way at the Burgettstown Train Station. This new trail town is located along the The Panhandle Trail, just south of Pittsburgh in northern Washington County, 9.5 miles from the adjoining Montour Trail.
With grant funding from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and help from The Progress Fund, Burgettstown Area Community Development Corporation (BACDC) successfully achieved their vision for the redevelopment of Burgettstown Train Station.
The Shoppe Along the Way at Burgettstown Train Station has quickly become a preferred destination on the Panhandle Trail for visitors and locals alike, encouraging further development along the trail. This “old fashioned” general store offers refreshments, unique gifts and furniture sourced from local artisans, vendors and farms.
We financed the start-up of these businesses along nearby trails:
• The Tandem Connection on the Montour Trail
• South Side Traveler’s Rest near the Three Rivers Heritage Trail
• Derailleur Bike Shop Cafe on the Butler-Freeport Trail
