Our borrower, Derailleur Bike Shop Café of Herman, PA, is highlighted in the June issue of Freedom Farms Magazine, a monthly magazine that covers the inner workings of farm living and the sustainable lifestyle.
Owners, Dee Stephen and Gavin Archer, had been living in California, but desired freedom and a change. Avid cyclists, they searched for a home near a bike trail in Dee’s home state of Pennsylvania.
They found a historic building and attached house along the Butler-Freeport Community Trail. The property originally functioned as a general store, post office and ticket office for the railroad.
After buying the property, Dee and Gavin continued to live in California for four years while taking quarterly “work vacations” to Pennsylvania. Their time and renovation efforts transformed the property into a café, bike rental and repair shop.
