The Progress Fund is the owner and developer of the Hazelwood Brew House and proud to announce the opening of our new tenant, Comfort & Spice café.
Renowned chef and culinary innovator, Toby Vann, has joined us and is set to take beer pairing to the next level. Toby is a passionate chef and culinary enthusiast who sees food as a communal adventure that unites people. Originally from New York City, Toby has spent over 30 years exploring and mastering unique flavor experiences from around the globe. His cuisine blends comforting staples with bold international flavors.
Each dish is designed to match a beer style, either fresh takes on classics, or exotic street food made approachable. Comfort & Spice offers a carefully curated menu that changes regularly. Toby’s winter menu highlights soups, stews, and braises, while summer showcases vibrant Asian street food including Hong Kong Bubble Waffles.
Even though it started as a weekend only pop-up, Comfort & Spice was named one of the “25 Best Restaurants in Pittsburgh” by the Pittsburgh Magazine in Spring 2024. What began as Toby’s winter-only food offering in Pittsburgh–serving hearty fare indoors at breweries during the off-season for food trucks–has grown into a year-round location at the Hazelwood Brew House.
“It’s inspiring to be around such great brewers, it literally makes me want to up my game,” says Vann. We think there is no better place for Toby’s community spirit than a beer hall and garden like Hazelwood.
Comfort & Spice is open Wednesday-Friday 4:00-8:30 pm; Saturday 2:00-8:00 pm; and Sunday 1:00-5:00 pm for Brunch.
