Chateau Connellsville
People
Cycle to Connellsville, stay at its award-winning Comfort Inn, and you’ll get some sense of the pleasant postindustrial city. Nate Morgan delved deeper, marrying a Connellsville woman, falling for the former coal capital and becoming majority owner of the inn along the Great Allegheny Passage. Invited to tour a century-old former convent, “I was completely amazed,” Nate says, at the exquisite décor and ceilings that “look like Michaelangelo.” The Connellsville Convent conveyed a spiritual side of the town that he yearned to highlight and share.
Progress
Nate has long banked with Enterprise Bank, which frequently partners with The Progress Fund. The two lenders combined on a $780,700 financing package to back the purchase and renovation of the convent.
Impact
The 11-suite Connellsville Convent can book a single cyclist, a wedding party of dozens and anything in between. Combined with the Comfort Inn and event center/restaurant Nate is developing, it allows the trail town to accommodate any small-to-midsize event. Convent guests enjoy a range of settings, from the cozy man-cave basement to the luxurious upper-floor suites. Nate says unique experiences like that generate buzz: “Hey, we went to Connellsville, we bike the GAP trail – and while we were here we stayed at a convent.”
