Stay in Ohiopyle - 140 Grant Street
It was not hard at all. Very low closing costs. I saved quite a bit. I could’ve saved so much money if I had just gone through The Progress Fund in the first place.
People
Ohiopyle is a little boomtown of a few dozen houses on less than half of a square mile, surrounded by a state park. Instead of trying to buy another property there, vacation rental owner Andrea Mikluscak decided to add a second story to one of her houses, doubling its maximum occupancy to 12. Modern, tidy and flexible, the expansion allows the house to accommodate anything from solo travelers to big families. “I want to make them comfortable and enjoy the town and use its facilities and eat there and drink there and have fun,” Andrea says.
Progress
A second-time borrower from The Progress Fund, Andrea borrowed $143,860, enough to cover the entire expansion project, including a hot tub.
Impact
Ohiopyle has evolved from a rafting town to an all-purpose, all-season getaway. “I was packed this year on Valentine’s Day,” Andrea says. Interest in the cycling, hiking and river sports options will only increase, but further economic growth will depend on the ability of entrepreneurs like Andrea to add lodging options within a very limited footprint. “The more people that come,” Andrea says, “the more people spend…more businesses thrive.”
