HeBrews Coffee Co.
People
Rica Mickle was a stay-at-home mom for 20 years, and during much of that time her daily java really warmed her heart. Habit begat hobby, and when she traveled, Rica stopped at coffee houses to compare taste and ambience. Then an idea began to percolate. “It was time to get out in the workforce again,” Rica says, “and I love coffee.”
Progress
Rica’s travels took her to a coffee house financed by The Progress Fund, and when she decided to start her own, that’s where she turned. Recognizing caffeinated drive and a solid business plan, The Progress Fund loaned the $70,000 needed to start HeBrews.
Impact
“We’re just an authentic coffee house,” says Rica. “It’s a clean, friendly place with a wonderful atmosphere.” And more. There’s a crackling fire in winter, outdoor seating in summer, live music on Friday nights, a 30-seat conference room, espresso-based drinks, smoothies and locally baked pastries. HeBrews attracts school kids thirsty for a wholesome hang-out, business groups looking for a stimulating meeting spot, and visitors seeking a sip of sophistication. More than just an amenity, HeBrews has added to the buzz about Bedford.
