Heads N' Tails Pet & Feed Supply

It might seem an odd pairing – a rural hardware store, and a loan fund focused on tourism. But when LaDonna and Kevin McCrary bought D & M Farm & Home Supply, with plans to expand its offerings to cater to tourists driving the storied Lincoln Highway, The Progress Fund provided part of the financing. Later the couple sought to refinance other debt to expand hours and product lines.
Progress
“We had such a good response with The Progress Fund before, and they were easy to work with,” said LaDonna. So like any satisfied customer, they went back. The Progress Fund saw a good fit for both its tourism-boosting mission and its interest in agriculture, and refinanced the debt on favorable terms.
Impact
D & M opened a new warehouse, and became the area’s exclusive retailer of Purina animal feeds. Now known as Heads N’ Tails Pet & Feed Supply, it expanded hours to better serve weekend farmers. And it added annual plants to the specialty toys and unique gifts that have started drawing travelers. Employment jumped by five, to a dozen. “The Progress Fund allowed us to do those things,” said LaDonna, “and it has allowed us to bring in a whole new market.”
